Sandstone Sculptures
Description:
These four small cupids are very adaptable and can even keep company with athletes and
gods in the courtyard. I suspect they are putti, most likely Renaissance period, used
perhaps as garden sculpture, decorative. I doubt they are Greek or Roman eras. The Roman
putti (Roman Puttus) were usually used in reggifestone holding garlands
and in reggistemma flanking cartouches. They may not be significant as the
bronzes, but are quite delightful in the style of Donatello. I did research on putti and
discovered they are surprisingly interesting little figures and are not cupids.
